For the second year running, Johns Creek has won recognition in the City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge by Amazon Web Services (AWS) — a Constituent Services Award for having developed an automated call center based on Amazon Connect.
“If a resident calls City Hall (678-512-3200) after regular business hours, the open data-powered call center helps answer residents’ questions and provides details on city services – all powered by the same information behind the city’s Amazon Alexa skill,” according to an announcement by Johns Creek.
Callers also can report emergencies and get answers to more than 200 commonly asked questions.

In 2018, City on a Cloud gave Johns Creek a Best Practices Award for its development of an Amazon Alexa skill, allowing the personal assistant to pull information from the city website and DataHub to answer users’ questions.
Depending on the award category and project scope, City on a Cloud winners receive up to $20,000 in AWS Promotional Credits, up to $20,000 in financial support, and up to five AWS employee training vouchers, Amazon said.
