Q: I always enjoyed Andy Griffith in his role as Atlanta-based defense attorney Ben Matlock. How is he doing these days?

— Vince Castle, Alpharetta

A: Griffith, 83, is starring in “Play the Game,” which opens Friday in select U.S. cities (Atlanta is not on the list). In the comedy, he plays a widowed grandfather who learns dating tricks from his grandson to meet women but ends up showing his grandson what it means to win at love, according to the film’s synopsis at www.playthegamemovie .com. The movie, rated PG-13, also stars Doris Roberts, Liz Sheridan, Paul Campbell and Marla Sokoloff. Griffith also starred in 2007’s “Waitress.” He lives in Roanoke Island, N.C., with his wife, Cindi, according to a 2008 story in The Virginian Pilot.

Q: What possible legitimate reason can policemen have for wearing masks while on duty?

— Bill McNew, Fayetteville

A: When undercover drug agents make an arrest, agents will conceal their identity as they close in on the arrest, said Brent Rowan, a spokesman for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. “It is common for drug agents to do that solely for the purpose of concealing their identity,” he said.
