The City of Alpharetta wants to know if residents have received a yellow flier advertising “curb address” painting services.

If so, there’s a good chance those offers are fake, according to officials.

The city posted the yellow handbill to its Facebook page earlier this week warning residents to steer clear of any offers in the flier.

The handbill states “Tomorrow, new reflective house numbers are being applied in front of the homes on your street, only with your permission.” It goes on to ask that interested residents tape the notice to their front door with their signature, address, phone number and date.

The paint job would cost $15, and a "courteous representative" would stop by the home to collect payment after services are done, the notice states.

The handbill does not list a company name, phone number or address, but says, “This is an important service as the Police, fire department, and paramedics look at the curbs first for your address.”

The city, however, says that's not true.

“Having your address numbers painted on the curb in front of your house is completely unnecessary,” the city wrote on its Facebook page, clarifying that first responders in emergency situations, instead, look for an address number on a mailbox, mailbox post, or a house.

"While we would not classify this as a scam, we do caution that the sales pitch is misleading and the service unnecessary."
