A golf course and clubhouse in north Fulton County is getting an expensive makeover.

The Crooked Creek Club at 3430 Highway 9 North in Alpharetta will close from June 1 to late August while undergoing renovations costing $1.3 million, the club said in a press release.

The first step in the multi-stage project will be renovating the greens and converting the turf to a new grass type which is a more suitable choice for southern climate as it “tolerates shade, thrives in heat and is less susceptible to disease.” The club is changing its turf from Bent Grass to Primo Zoysia.

The club and course are managed by Billy Casper Signature, which operates clubs and courses throughout the country and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.

“This project will transform Crooked Creek from a good course that has lacked necessary attention into a great one with a greens turf product that will lead the industry,” Matt Wilson, the national director of operations for Billy Casper Signature, said in a statement. “We know with a greatly improved product, a hardworking on-site team and a loyal, engaged membership base, Crooked Creek Club will be a case study for success.”

Course enhancements include upgrading the irrigation system, improving the bunkers, leveling tee surfaces and “beautifying” the perimeters of the course. A new fleet of golf carts and maintenance equipment will also be added.

The practice facility will also see improvements with the installation of a mat running along the back edge of the range tee. New bag stands, chairs and tee dividers will also be added.

In the clubhouse, Crooked Creek officials plan to add televisions, a fire pit, an outdoor patio, new furniture and new flooring.

The 18-hole Crooked Creek course first opened in 1996.
