The Alpharetta City Council has approved a partnership with Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA to allocate $2.5 million in city bond proceeds for the construction of new community activity space at the facility.

Voters approved a bond referendum in May 2016 that contained $2.5 million for an East Side Community Center/YMCA Partnership, staff said in a report to the council. The funds will go toward an addition with five community spaces to be used for programming by the city and YMCA, as outlined in their lease and management agreement.

According to a memorandum of understanding approved by the council on Monday, Sept. 9, the total construction cost is $3.1 million, and the YMCA will be responsible for amounts above $2.5 million.

Work is expected to begin this month and be finished in May 2020. The YMCA is at 3655 Preston Ridge Road, Alpharetta. Information: https://bit.ly/2kDb1M3
