Creekwater Alpacas is a 52-acre farm nestled in a quiet neighborhood just a few miles from business-lined U.S. 78.

Precious, right, is the official ambassador for the Creekwater Alpacas Farm in Snellville. "Most alpacas don't like to be pet, but she's the exception," fam manager Joe Fowler says.

An alpaca shares a tender moment with her one-day-old baby. Alpacas produce one of the world's finest and luxurious natural fibers.

Alpacas rest in the shade. The ones with red collars around their necks are pregnant. The gestation period is 11-1/2 months, and the lifespan is about 20 years.

Owner Nance Sturm holds a baby alpaca less than a week old with the mother next to her. Sturm started this enterprise in 1993 with only 10 alpacas and today she has 150.
