Glacially incarcerated Atlantans will find this amusing: 2010 tied for the warmest year on record, according to the National Climatic Data Center.
Global warming is taking some vacation days thus far in 2011, however; most roads in north Georgia are more suitable for sledding than driving, thanks to snow and ice.
According to the info released Wednesday, the global average temperature tied with 2005 as the warmest period since 1880, when records were first kept. Temperatures in 2010 were 1.12 degrees above the 20th century average of 57 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the report.
A spokesman for the National Weather Service in Peachtree City said they have not yet compiled Georgia's 2010 average temperature.
Those who think global warming is a myth will have trouble arguing with these stats:
* 2010 was the 34th consecutive year that global temperatures were above average.
* Nine of the 10 warmest years since 1880 have occurred since 2001. All 12 of the warmest have occurred since 1997.
* The global average surface temperature has risen more than 1 degree since the Industrial Revolution.
