Correction: A previous version of this story misidentified the woman’s last name and her age. Her name is Elsada Duncan, and she died at age 111.
Elsada Duncan, known around Milton as “Granny” or “Miss Elsie,” died at age 111 on Saturday.
Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood said in a statement Tuesday that Duncan was one of the city’s oldest residents.
“I can remember dancing with Granny as her family and friends gathered to celebrate her turning 100,” Lockwood said.
In the 10 years since, he said, Duncan beat breast cancer at age 104. The city did not say in its statement Tuesday how she died.
Duncan was honored by City Council when she turned 110 in January 2018.

Lockwood said he remembered her most recent birthday message: “We must all show love to each other and be kind to each other.”
Duncan has multiple great-grandchildren, according to the Embassy of Jamaica, which wrote about her on its website in 2008 to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Born in Brainerd, St. Mary, Jamaica, on Jan. 15, 1908, Duncan told the embassy that she attributed her long life to her “faith in God.”
She attended school until she was 15, and then took up dressmaking. In 1940, she gave birth to her daughter Norma and adopted her niece and nephew. Duncan and her family immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s, at first living in Connecticut, and then moving to metro Atlanta in 1995.
