More than 30 hours and a couple of heavy equipment companies later, a 55,000-pound truck has been removed from a sinkhole in Hall County, according to reports.

Since Tuesday morning, the truck had been stuck in a 8-by-10-foot hole in a parking lot at Wallis and Branch roads in Oakwood near I-985.

Officials from Terry Towing led the initial removal effort before Hulcher Services brought in two Caterpillars and a clawed bulldozer to pull the truck from the hole about 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Gainesville Times reported.

It’s still unclear what caused the sinkhole, but Oakwood Public Works Director Jason Spencer told the Times he thinks an old storm drain may be at fault.

The truck belongs to Canada-based Badger Daylighting company, which specializes in hydrovac trucks. It was carrying 1,600 gallons of water when the incident happened about 8 a.m. Tuesday.
