Stockbridge leaders, fearing the effort to carve a city of Eagle's Landing from parts of Stockbridge is gaining momentum, held a candlelight prayer vigil Monday seeking help from a higher power to nix the move and asked residents to sign a petition against separating the community from the city.
“We continue to need your support to save your city, our city,” Stockbridge Mayor Anthony Ford told the roughly 100 people who turned out for the gathering. “If God is willing we will continue on and we will win this.”

Stockbridge is locked in a battle with residents of Eagle's Landing, a wealthy community in the Henry County city's southern end that wants to form its own town. The residents say cityhood would allow them to better control their destiny, including creating parks and enhancing access to police.
