If Southern Regional Medical Center were a patient, observers would say its prognosis is improving.

The Clayton County hospital is a lot closer to being on the road to possible recovery after years of financial turmoil. A federal bankruptcy court appears to have given the hospital the thumbs-up for selling most of its assets to a California turnaround specialist. Now it's a matter of clearing away a few more procedures and paperwork and the 331-bed facility will be in the hands of Prime Healthcare, a California company that specializes in breathing new life into troubled medical facilities.
