Atlanta mayoral candidate Peter Aman will officially kick off his campaign Thursday.

Aman, who took a two-year hiatus as partner at Bain and Co. to be Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s first chief operating officer, will use the kickoff to outline his platform for the city.

During the 5:30 p.m. event at Ponce City Market, Aman is set to explain his plans to make Atlanta a safe and vibrant city, and unite residents, an announcement said.

Aman has said Atlanta "has an opportunity to redefine what it means to be a vibrant, united and livable city."

As the city’s chief operating officer, he was responsible for managing all city departments and 7,000 employees. He also has served on the boards of The Atlanta Committee for Progress, The Atlanta Police Foundation, The Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and The Galloway School.

The race is crowded. In addition to Aman, contenders and likely contenders include: Atlanta City Council members Keisha Lance Bottoms, Mary Norwood, Kwanza Hall and Ceasar Mitchell; former City Councilwoman Cathy Woolard; and Michael Sterling, an aide to Mayor Kasim Reed. Georgia Senate Minority Whip Vincent Fort announced his candidacy over the weekend.
