Morrow names new police chief

A 10-year veteran of the Morrow police department is now the agency’s permanent police chief.

Jimmy Callaway replaces Melvin Douglas who was fired at the start of 2015 after four months on the job. Callaway was named permanent police chief after a 3-0 vote by the city council this week. Councilwoman Han Trang abstained from voting.

Callaway has held numerous positions with the police department since 2006, He also has led the department’s criminal investigations division and administrative services division.

Prior to joining the Morrow police department in 2006, Callaway spent a decade as a deputy sheriff in the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office. Callaway has also served as a MARTA police officer.

Callaway has a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University and an associate’s degree in applied technology criminal justice from DeKalb Technical College. He is working on his master’s degree.
