The Marietta Police Department is launching a new Spanish language outreach initiative, a spokesperson said Tuesday.

Public safety tips and messages will now be distributed in both English and Spanish.

MPD has also issued a request for local leaders within the Latino community to reach out to the department’s public safety ambassador, Reina Vaquero, to help her identify additional opportunities to reach Spanish speakers.

According to the most recent census estimate, Hispanic or Latino people make up about 16 percent of Marietta’s population.

Vaquero can be reached via email at rvaquero@mariettaga.gov or via telephone at (770) 794-2368.
