Many communities across DeKalb County are participating in National Night Out this year, an initiative promoting relationships between neighborhoods and the police departments who patrol them.
National Night Out is usually held on the first Tuesday in August; this year’s celebration is Aug. 6.
“The goal of National Night Out is to create a safe and healthy community, so we involve residents and public safety personnel,” Chamblee Police Chief Kerry Thomas said in a news release. “This celebration in Chamblee goes above and beyond by having block parties, cookouts, ice cream parties and more — it’s truly neighbors getting to know neighbors while involving our law enforcement.”
Various neighborhoods across DeKalb will host events on Tuesday evening. Here is a round up of some of the larger gatherings:

The police departments in Dunwoody and Brookhaven are jointly hosting an event from 6-9 p.m. at the Target parking lot at 100 Perimeter Center Place. There will be police and fire demonstrations, entertainment and free food.
