A Henry County man will be heading to the Republican National Convention this summer as a delegate.
Ron Moon was elected this month to be one of three delegates to represent the 13th Congressional District at the GOP’s national convention in July in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the only southside delegate representing the 13th District. Moon has been active in the Republican party in Georgia for nearly 30 years. Moon and his wife, Debbie, live in the Stockbridge area.
Moon, a first-time delegate, could wind up participating in the first contested Republican convention in decades.
“I’m very excited,” Moon said Wednesday.
The heavily-followed and controversial Republican campaign will make for an interesting convention, Moon said as billionaire candidate Donald Trump not only battles Democratic contenders but his own party for the nomination.
“You don’t know what you’ll be encountering. Just the mystery of it,” Moon, 73, said. “Quite often, you have two people vying for the position and one wins. This convention will be the most unique ever. (We) have one candidate who has won a great number of delegates. You don’t know what’s going to happen. There’s (also) talk of an alternative candidate. It’s exciting to think about what might go on. It’s probably the most important election in my life time. This election is really, really important to our country.”
Moon will participate in the state’s convention in early June before heading to the national convention in July.
“I’ll be obligated to a particular candidate but that’s not been assigned yet,” Moon said.
Moon has been active in the Republican party in Georgia for nearly 30 years.
“It’s seems like patriotism is going to the wayside,” Moon said. “We need a strong president to turn that around. We need a strong president to turn our economy around and be a moral influence in our country.
