Suwanee City Council candidate Joe Briggs has dropped out of the race after receiving backlash from his controversial social media activity.

Briggs, a 59-year-old engineer, drew fire last week after The Atlanta Journal-Constitution published screenshots of inflammatory tweets he wrote about Jews and Israel.

Suwanee, like several other cities in Gwinnett and elsewhere, will hold municipal elections Tuesday.
