Gwinnett County will spend nearly $750,000 for new sidewalks and other improvements near Trickum Middle School in Lilburn.

The county will install more than a mile of sidewalks along the north side of Killian Hill Road from Sandra Drive to Nantucket Drive. The project also includes curb, gutter and drainage improvements.

On Tuesday the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners awarded a $745,558 contract to low bidder CMES Inc. to do the work. Gwinnett will use money from a voter-approved 2009 special sales tax for construction projects to pay for the work.

County Transportation Director Alan Chapman told commissioners the project will connect neighborhoods to the middle school.
