One person has died and 25 others injured in Dade County following strong storms earlier Wednesday.

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency confirmed that one person was killed near the town of Trenton in the northwest corner of Georgia.

GEMA spokeswoman Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said other details were not immediately available, but Paulk-Buchanan also said that Floyd County was hammered in the earlier set of storms that swept through the state in advance of more severe weather expected this evening.

As of 6 p.m., Floyd County officials were reporting 57 roads affected by downed power lines or trees, although 25 had already been cleared. Residents in the Mt. Alto community were being advised to conserve water due to power outages limiting the ability of water pumps to refill tanks.

The state's emergency operations center, she said, was in limited activation as of 7 p.m. Several Metro Atlanta counties, however, have began their own emergency preparations, including Fulton, Gwinnett and Cobb, Paulk-Buchanan said.
