The Atlanta Braves announced Thursday that they have entered into an agreement to purchase a 9.5-acre parcel of land that currently houses the headquarters of Genuine Parts Company, which sits on Circle 75 Parkway near the site of the Braves stadium and mixed-use development.
Genuine Parts, a Fortune 500 parent company of auto parts giant NAPA, announced last month that they intend to build a new 150,000-square-foot headquarters in Cobb County beginning next year. That property is adjacent to Genuine Parts existing facility in Wildwood.
“We are pleased that our longtime home will help expand the footprint of the Braves development and also help enhance the fan experience,” said Tom Gallagher, chairman and CEO of Genuine Parts Company, which has been based at the facility since the late 1970s.
The purchase will bring the total amount of land controlled by the Braves to more than 90 acres. The Braves say they are evaluating potential uses for the land as part of their parking and transportation plan around the new development.
“We began discussions following their decision to consolidate operations in Cobb County, which culminated in a contract to purchase the property when they vacate,” said Mike Plant, the Braves’ executive vice president of business operations. “The property is going to compliment our overall development and play a major role in providing our fans, residents and customers with a positive parking and transportation experience.”
The Braves also announced Thursday that it has signed a long-term sponsorship extension with NAPA, which has partnered with the Braves since the team moved to Turner Field in 1997.
The purchase price of the land was not included in a press release issued Thursday morning.
