More than 20 Atlanta schools will share $2,204,730 to pay for thousands of computers, plus headphones, iPads and other technology as students work from home during building closures.

The Atlanta school district was among 55 Georgia school systems to receive federal grant money to pay for digital learning efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Georgia Department of Education announced the grants Tuesday. The money can be used to pay for laptops, tablets and other computer devices for students and teachers. It can also be spent on training for teachers, software and providing internet access to students.

Lower-performing schools that are identified by the state for additional support were eligible for the grant funds.

APS will spend the money to purchase 6,337 computers, 963 headphones, 469 iPads, 37 computer carts and software licenses.
