Thousands of DeKalb County School District middle- and high-school students found themselves unable to log into virtual learning platforms after a security upgrade reset passwords in the system.

The issue is being addressed and the security upgrades were temporarily delayed, a district spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Parents complained via email and on social media Tuesday and Wednesday that they were having issues logging into Verge, the district’s distance learning platform, and that calls to the school system’s help desk were not getting through.

Some schools sent out notes to parents making them aware of the problem, as well as offering alternatives for learning.

Like much of Georgia, DeKalb Schools shifted classes online last month to help curb COVID-19’s spread, testing a digital learning system largely used during inclement weather to make sure learning was continuing.
