Dozens of construction, renovation and technology-related projects are going on at schools this summer in Cobb County.

One of the largest includes Wheeler High school in east Cobb, where a new gym and theater will be constructed. They’ll be new additions to the façade and classroom renovation at the school, which was completed in 2013, according to Cobb school officials.

Wheeler and other projects happening this summer are part of the district's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) program. The district's SPLOST Department is overseeing a total of 56 projects under way at 44 schools, according to school officials.

Projects include new classroom and curricular additions; painting, paving, and fencing projects; new sprinkler and fire suppression equipment; fryer replacements in the kitchens of all 16 high schools; new canopies, landscaping and lighting at numerous schools; and dozens of other projects.
