Atlanta Public Schools launched an online system to manage public records requests.

Those seeking documents from the school district now do it through a website, where they must create a password-protected account and then electronically submit requests for information through the Georgia Open Records Act.

Those requesting documents can ask to receive their records electronically, inspect them in person or receive hard copies.

The district’s communication office officially announced the new portal Monday, but the system has been in place for at least a week.

Previously, those seeking documents could email the district’s open records office. An email sent by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week requesting public records bounced back to the sender with a notification that delivery of the email failed.

The new open records site can be found here.
