Jared Loggins, a 2015 graduate of Morehouse College, was recently named Male Student of the Year at the annual AARP HBCU Awards.

Morehouse’s school newspaper, the Maroon Tiger, where Loggins served as managing editor, was named Best Student Newspaper. Claflin College in Orangeburg, S.C. was voted College of the Year.

“The HBCU Awards is just one of many opportunities to support the important work black colleges are doing all over,” Loggins said. “Yes, I am grateful for the award, but so many current students, graduates, and administration should also be celebrated for birthing the next generation of leaders and thinkers.”

A native of Memphis, Loggins graduated from Morehouse with a degree in political science.

He was a Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow and formerly a Presidential Fellow at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress. He is a member of the Georgia College Press Association and the Southern Political Science Association.

He is an alumnus of the Georgia News Lab, an investigative reporting initiative sponsored by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and WSB-TV. This summer, Loggins worked as in investigative intern at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

In the fall, Loggins will begin graduate studies in political science at the University of California, Los Angeles.
