More Atlanta students in the class of 2018 took the SAT test, but the district’s scores still lag behind the state.

The Georgia Department of Education released the latest scores for the college-entrance exam Thursday.

The total mean score for Atlanta Public Schools students was 997, up from 992 for the class of 2017. Georgia's public school students in the class of 2018 posted a total score of 1054.

There were 253 more test-takers in the APS class of 2018 than the class before. The state reported that 1,382 Atlanta students from the 2018 graduating class took the exam.

They scored 512 on reading and writing and 485 on math. A perfect score on those two parts of the test is a 1600.

Grady High School topped all Atlanta high schools with a total mean score of 1128, according to results released by the state.
