A Jewish high school in metro Atlanta is launching a new sports science program this fall.

The Weber School, a private school located in Sandy Springs, announced the Sports Science Academy this week. 

School officials said the honors diploma program is one of only a handful in the country. The program will feature a mix of academic curriculum and hands-on learning. It will help prepare students for further study and work in fields such as physical therapy, fitness and sports management.

Courses include athletic training, sports medicine, research methods, sports nutrition, anatomy and physiology, and strength and conditioning. Clinical internships also are part of the program.

Any Weber student interested in the field can enroll in the program, preferably during their ninth grade year. A student must take at least five courses to complete the program.
