Lee May's Transforming Faith Church has made another donation to help obliterate DeKalb County School District student lunch tabs.

The group, with help from other partners, donated $7,000 toward school lunch tabs at several schools: Browns Mill Elementary School, Fairington Elementary School, Hambrick Elementary School, Marbut Elementary School, Murphey Candler Elementary School, Panola Way Elementary School, Pine Ridge Elementary School, Princeton Elementary School, Redan Elementary School, Rockbridge Elementary School, Rock Chapel Elementary School, Shadow Rock Elementary School, Stone Mountain Elementary School and Wynbrooke Elementary School.

May's church donated several times during the 2017-2018 school year toward school lunch bills, eliminating student lunch tabs at several south DeKalb County schools.

May attended this month’s DeKalb County Board of Education Committee of the Whole meeting where the donation was discussed. The donation was approved during the monthly DeKalb Board of Education meeting. Several school board members thanked May for the donation.

“You didn’t wait til you were a megachurch,” school board member Vickie Turner said. “You bloom where you planted. I believe life begets life and I receive your good work.”

Initially, May's goal was to eliminate a $26,000 school lunch tab across the district, getting other organizations involved in the effort to eliminate the bill. Across the country, when student tabs reach a certain point, some schools stop serving them. In other situations, the students may receive a cold lunch substitute.
