For the past 52 years, Iota Men have been "Building a Tradition" through our perpetuation of our cardinal principles of Scholarship, Leadership, Citizenship, Fidelity and Brotherhood within the organization, but more importantly, within our respective communities.
Founding Brother John Slade, one of Iota’s 12 Founders, once stated that the Founders wanted to create an organization that was relevant to our communities. Without question, over the past 52 years, the Brotherhood of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. has done just that, become ‘Relevant through Service,’ albeit often quietly and behind the scenes, without much fanfare.
For those we’ve served, our contributions are both well-noted and appreciated, and we’ve earned their respect. However, it is time for the rest of the world to know of our Fraternity’s positive contributions and impacts.
To that end, Iota Phi Theta, through its current international community service and health initiatives, and in collaboration with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Red Cross, and international sexual abuse and human trafficking awareness and prevention organizations, will over the next few years reach and positively impact thousands of people, both nationally and internationally, addressing the issues that impact us all.
We will continue to address the issue of police brutality with organizations such as the NAACP and N.O.B.L.E.
Finally, we will also continue paying special attention in terms of manpower and resources to health issues that adversely impact African American men and other Men of Color, such as prostate cancer and stress-related diseases.
We, as one Brotherhood, will continue to move forward, collectively and with resolute purpose, to strengthen our bonds of Brotherhood while initiating the service initiatives that will let this nation and the world know that Iota Men are, indeed, “… the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
