Gwinnett County Schools wants to give kindergartners their first taste of school early as their parents register them for class.

Parents and guardians of children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2019, should begin gathering information that they will need to register their children.

Online registration for new kindergarten students is open now. To begin the registration process, visit your school’s website.

Gwinnett County continues its years-long tradition of giving rising kindergartners a firsthand experience. On May 2, parents can complete the process in person.

If parents are unsure which school their child will attend, they can enter their address using GCPS’ school locator web page at bit.ly/GCPSSchoolLocator to identify their attendance zone.

Kindergarten in GCPS is a full-day program. Registration for the new school year takes place before the summer to provide time to organize classes and to allow students to participate in local school activities that will help them get ready for their first day of school. The first day of school is set for Monday, Aug. 5.

Parents and guardians should call their local elementary school for registration times, and visit the “2018 Kindergarten Registration” section on the GCPS website (www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us) for more information and school phone numbers.

Parents and guardians should bring the following on May 2, in order to complete their child’s registration for kindergarten:

- a non-contingent sales contract

- current lease/rental agreement

- most recent income tax return

- current paycheck stub

- current residential property tax statement or bill

- current warranty or quitclaim deed

- current home purchase agreement

- current homeowner’s insurance policy
