Several Georgia colleges and universities are offering partial refunds to students for housing and dining plans since the schools are closed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The 330,000-student University System of Georgia announced Thursday all 26 of its schools are working on some refunds. Other fees may be partially refunded.

On-campus housing costs nearly $6,000 a semester and meal plans are as much as $2,000 a semester at some campuses.

Students have pushed for refunds on social media in recent days.

Emory University, the state’s largest private institution, with about 15,000 students, said Tuesday it will refund student accounts with a calculated amount of unused housing, dining, athletic fees, activity fees, parking fees, and other fees unrelated to academic instruction. Health related fees, will also not be refunded.

Morehouse College, near downtown Atlanta, has said it will issue pro-rated refund checks to students for housing and meal plans.
