The Fulton County Board of Education will hold a special meeting Thursday to discuss the superintendent’s contract.

The special meeting, which was announced today, will begin at 10 a.m. with the board talking behind closed doors followed by a public session “for the sole purpose of discussing the superintendent’s contract,” according to a meeting notice.

Any vote on Superintendent Jeff Rose’s contract must be done in public.

Rose was hired in 2016, and his initial contract ended May 31, 2019. According to the terms of the contract, the board must notify the superintendent in writing at least one year before the contact expires if it doesn’t intend to renew the contract.

In June, the school board extended his contract to Oct. 31, 2019, to allow several more months to gather information before doing an annual review. Last month, school board president Linda Bryant said the extra time was needed because now that Rose has been on the job for two years there’s more information to consider.

That delay has caused some parents who support Rose to fear the board may be looking to replace him.

They’ve urged the school board to keep Rose, saying the district needs stable leadership and praising his work so far.

Thursday’s meeting will take place at the North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway in Sandy Springs.
