Fulton County teachers would receive a $2,775 salary hike and a mid-year "step" increase, based on years of experience, under a proposed $35.5 million compensation plan.
The $2,775 per teacher raise is included in the Georgia House of Representatives’ spending plan, which includes that amount for every public school teacher.
Fulton County Schools also has proposed giving teachers, principals, assistant principals, counselors, media specialists, school social workers and psychologists a mid-year “step” increase that would provide a further salary boost for eligible employees.
The proposal is part of the district’s estimated $35.5 million compensation plan inserted in its 2020 budget, which will be presented to the school board in April. The board will vote in the coming months on the next budget, which begins July 1.
Another group of Fulton school employees -- paraprofessionals, parent liaisons, clinic aides, bus drivers, transportation assistants, food service workers, and custodians-- would receive a 3 percent salary increase plus a mid-year step increase under the plan.
In a Tuesday news release, the district said that 3 percent raise “represents a deliberate effort” to recognize those employees in positions that are typically lower-pay and harder to fill.
Other district employees would receive a 2 percent salary increase and a mid-year step increase.
If approved, the step increases would go into effect in January 2020.
The district has roughly 10,500 full-time employees.
This school year, all eligible employees received a step increase and about 40 percent of Fulton County teachers, or those on steps four through 14 of the salary schedule, received a 2 percent mid-year raise intended to make their pay more competitive with other metro Atlanta school districts.
