Atlanta Public Schools has changed the game times for five Carver High School football games after a weekend shooting near Lakewood Stadium.

A 12-year-old and a 16-year-old were injured in the shooting, which took place around 9:30 p.m. Saturday after a scrimmage game between George Washington Carver and Benjamin E. Mays high schools.

Asaiah Payton, 12, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was in stable condition. Damean Spear, 16, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center by his mother and treated and released.

Police have not arrested anyone in the shooting.

While the incident did not take place on APS property, the school district has responded by changing the times for a handful of upcoming football games to earlier in the day.

“The adjustments to the home games will not impact teams’ abilities to play their full schedules, including any playoff games. This decision is aligned with an approach the district implemented in the past that was very successful,” said APS spokesman Ian Smith, in a written statement.

The new game times will be several hours earlier, so that kickoff will occur in the afternoon and not the evening. Several of the games have also moved from Friday to Saturday.

The new times and dates for the five Lakewood Stadium games affected are:

  • Aug. 24 at 4 p.m. Carver vs. Arabia Mountain
  • Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. Carver vs. North Springs
  • Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. Grady vs. Carver
  • Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. Carver vs. Banneker
  • Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. Carver vs. Decatur
