The search firms looking for Atlanta’s next superintendent have contacted more than 350 people about the position, with between three and five finalists expected to be presented to the school board in January.

Veronica Biggins of Diversified Search said at a committee meeting this week that conversations have been held with school employees across the country, university presidents, military generals, business leaders, nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups and state school superintendents.

Because the superintendent answers to the school board, some candidates are waiting to decide whether they’ll apply until after the Nov. 5 election, Biggins said.
