AJC Sepia Greek Spotlight: The Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
1 / 25
On Jan. 13, 1913, a group of 22 women at Howard University formed Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., dedicated to public service with an emphasis on programs that target the African American community. The group was so committed to activism and public service that as one of their first points of business, less than two months after the sorority's founding, they participated in the historic 1913 Women’s Suffrage March for the rights of women to vote. They were the only black women's organization to walk in the march.
