Senate Democrats claim Republican support is growing for a war powers resolution aimed at preventing President Donald Trump from taking any more action in Iran.

On Tuesday, U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) told The Hill he would support the resolution, which is being authored by U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) Kaine's measure is similar to the one passed by the House along party lines last week.

The Democrat-led House resolution was passed after Trump authorized a drone strike that killed top Iranian Revolutionary Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Democrats continue to decry Trump's order, claiming they were not briefed on any military action the president planned to take in the Middle East.

President Trump ordered an airstrike Thursday that killeda top Iranian general. The Pentagon confirmed that Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani was targeted in the attack near Baghdad Airport. Soleimani was the head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards and one of the most powerful figures in the country. A statement from the Pentagon claimed the strike “was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans.” Pentagon, via statement Pentagon, via statement President Trump tweeted a photo of an American fla

Young said he would support Kaine’s resolution as the Virginia Democrat continues revising his war powers resolution.

U.S. Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) also have gone on record with their support of Kaine’s resolution.

However, Kaine’s resolution has yet to be reported out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is naming Trump's impeachment managers on Wednesday, and the House itself will be sending those impeachment articles over to the Senate also on Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell expects Trump’s impeachment trial to begin on Jan. 21, meaning Kaine’s resolution, if it ever reported out of committee, may be low on the Senate’s list of considerations.

Kaine has been making changes to his resolution as he’s tried to gather more Republican support. He removed two paragraphs in the "findings" section that directly mention Trump over concerns from Republicans and some Democrats that it was too political.
