The GBI is investigating three deaths in a small South Georgia town, and the agency’s preliminary investigation Tuesday found that it was a double homicide-suicide.

The three bodies were found in their home by the Charlton County Sheriff’s Office in the 1400 block of St. Marys River Blugg Road in St. George, the GBI said in a news release.

Caleb Logan Butts, 15, Kimberly Gayle Butts, 39, and Jan Elizabeth Kirkland, 64, were found dead.

The Associated Press reported the GBI determined that Kimberly Butts was responsible for the death of her son and her mother.

A sheriff’s office incident report obtained by the AP said both women were shot in the head and the teen was shot several times in the chest. Michael Wilson, Kimberly Butts’ father, found the bodies and called 911.

St. George is close to the Georgia-Florida border, about 300 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
