Black Twitter has, once again, found fault with a social media personality for sharing advice that some say is not only unwelcomed but coming from an inept source.
B. Simone, a comedian and entrepreneur, has been the top trending topic on Twitter since Monday night due to a short clip she posted on social media. More than 70,000 tweets mentioned her name as of Tuesday evening, with many mocking and chastising her for the advisory video. In the clip directed toward women, Simone, who lives in metro Atlanta, wishes her followers a happy Valentine’s Day and offers up a “love challenge,” which she says will help people manifest love. In the “challenge,” she gives some perspective on what she says is the flaw in limiting your requirements for a partner.
“...We got all these things we want in a man…He gotta be tall, he gotta be dark, he gotta be handsome, he gotta have pretty feet, he gotta be a family man, he gotta be financially stable, he gotta be rich, he gotta be successful.”
She adds that these stipulations are not reasonable if the woman seeking a man who meets those standards lacks some of those same attributes.
“He gotta be all these things and we ain’t even half the things on that list,” she continued in her video to her more than 5 million followers.
See the full 2-minute, 41-second clip here. The video originated on Instagram, but it was later shared on Twitter, where the ever-vocal chorus of critics pounced on B. Simone and her hot take on dating.
Some gave her sentiments some credence, but they found issue with her directing statements toward Black women, who are often “career women,” as one user noted.
Others dissed the “Wild’N’ Out” actor, since she has been interviewed about her desire to date only “businessmen” and publicly campaigned to date rapper Da Baby. The previous comments and her dating pursuits make her ill-fitted to be a dating adviser, many said.
A few said if some social media users could get past the fact that the messenger was B. Simone, the message should have been taken.
