Infant killed, 3 people injured in Douglas County crash

An infant was killed in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Douglas County, the Georgia State Patrol said.

At least three cars were involved in the crash on the exit ramp from Interstate 20 westbound to Liberty Road.

A male driver who was involved in a hit-and-run incident near Ga. 5 while traveling west on I-20 tried to exit at Liberty Road, and on the ramp, he struck another vehicle in which a mother was traveling with two children, the state patrol said.

An 8-month-old baby died after being taken to Tanner Medical Center in Villa Rica with the injured mother. A 12-year-old child was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with injuries. The at-fault driver was also injured, the state patrol said. The driver in the initial hit and run was not hurt.

Charges are pending. The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.
