Shoppers aren’t the only ones gearing up for the annual holiday shopping rush. Employers are getting a head start, too, according to reports.
Despite the risks that the delta variant may pose to consumer spending, many companies are looking to fill holiday positions at their stores, warehouses and logistics, CNN Business reported.
In order to attract hourly workers in this year’s competitive job market climate, many companies are offering higher pay, sign-on bonuses and other incentives.
Here are a few major employers that have started hiring holiday workers so far:
1-800-Flowers.com
The flower delivery company plans to hire more than 10,000 seasonal workers to deliver food and gifts to customers, CNN reported.
1-800-Flowers.com is offering full-time and part-time positions complete with bonuses and increased pay for returning hires, Steve Lightman, the company’s group president of gourmet foods and gift baskets, said in an email to CNN.
Most positions are in Illinois, Ohio and Oregon, according to CNN.
Amazon
Amazon has just announced that it will start paying $18 an hour to 125,000 new hires, according to reports. And, in some places, the company will also pay sign-on bonuses of $3,000.
According to The Associated Press, most of Amazon’s job openings are in 18 states: Georgia, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington.
Kohl’s
Kohl’s plans to add 90,000 seasonal workers to stores and warehouses, including its e-commerce fulfillment center in Etna, Ohio, and at its Sephora mini-shops located inside its stores, CNN reported.
The retail chain added perks this year for employees working through the holidays: a bonus ranging from $100 to $400, according to CNN.
Michaels
Arts-and-crafts chain Michaels is hiring more than 20,000 people in stores and distribution centers, a 25% increase from last year, according to CNN Business.
The retailer offers competitive wages, flexible hours and a 30% discount to seasonal workers, CNN Business reported.
UPS
100,000 part- and full-time seasonal workers are wanted at UPS to meet holiday delivery demand, CNN reported.
“This is the tightest hiring market we’ve ever seen,” UPS spokesperson Dan McMackin said, according to CNN.
In addition to higher wages, UPS will offer a sign-on bonus to seasonal employees as well as pledging offers for many roles within 30 minutes, according to CNN.
United States Postal Service
The U.S. Postal Service plans to hire more than 40,000 workers to handle mail and package deliveries during the holiday season, CNN reported.
The company is looking for mail carriers, handlers and drivers all across the country, according to CNN.
