It's October, which means the world is awash in pink as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The month-long campaign, aimed at raising public consciousness, has been growing in size and scope ever since it officially began in 1985. In the U.S., the occasion is marked by such public displays as football players donning pink uniforms and the White House transforming into the Pink House.
The goal of the campaign is to raise the public consciousness about breast cancer, which is the second leading killer among cancers for women.
