A Gwinnett County Water Resource employee was killed Thursday when he was the victim of a hit-and-run while directing traffic around a construction site.

Constantin George Bolof, 60, of Auburn, was working at an active site at the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Henderson Lake Drive at the time of the crash, Gwinnett police said in a news release.

Bolof was hit and killed by a car driven by 44-year-old Thomas Allen Burke, of Loganville, police said. Burke was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, hit and run, DUI and reckless driving. He has been booked into the Gwinnett County Jail where he remains without bond, online jail records show.

Police did not release further information about the nature of Bolof’s injuries or the circumstances around Burke’s arrest.

“Gwinnett Police department would like to extend its condolence to his family, friends and coworkers at Water Resources,” the news release said.
