The Atlanta Ballet has canceled classes and performances amid the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s about to throw a party that you can join from the comfort of your own home.
On Tuesday night, the dance company will host Virtual Dance Party | #GivingTuesdayNow.

"To express our thanks to the Atlanta Ballet community, we are hosting a virtual dance party on May 5th as part of #GivingTuesdayNow, a day dedicated to creating a world-wide wave of generosity," read the Facebook event description.
Music for the online event will be provided by Kwasi “DJ Quasi Mandisco” Anderson, who usually provides tunes in the Atlanta Ballet lobby.
“The Atlanta Ballet has been giving back to the community for a long time, being the longest continuously performing ballet company in the United States,” Anderson said Monday in a Facebook video. “And even in these times, their costume designers are making protective masks to give to our front line workers.”

Anderson encouraged viewers to follow the Atlanta Ballet's Facebook and Instagram pages or visit atlantaballet.com to donate "to help keep the company dancing."
Whether or not a donation is feasible, Anderson encouraged people to join the virtual dance party from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday.
“I can promise you it’s going to be a great time,” he said before thanking Atlanta Ballet supporters.
Additionally, an Atlanta Ballet spokesperson confirmed the AJC that an anonymous donor has stepped forward to match up to $10,000 in donations to the Atlanta Ballet today.
