A Bibb County deputy was killed early Tuesday after an inmate stabbed him in the neck.

Christopher Knight, 30, was pronounced dead about 4 a.m., according to WMAZ.

The stabbing happened at the Bibb County Jail in Macon. Another deputy, Jerome Michael Williams, 32, was also stabbed.

“We’re here on a sad morning for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office,” Bibb County Sheriff David Davis told reporters Tuesday morning. “We’ve lost a fine deputy in the jail and had another one injured.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to assist in the investigation. GBI Special Agent in Charge Todd Crosby said Albert Booze — who had been in the jail since November 2018 on charges of criminal damage to property, giving a false name, and trespassing — was moved Monday for “disciplinary issues.”

Around 2:26 a.m. Tuesday, Booze was moved to suicide watch after he said he wanted to hurt himself.

Deputies were moving Booze when a fight broke out between him and the deputies. Booze allegedly wrestled a knife from Knight, which he used to stab him and Williams.

“Deputies do have access to knifes when needed,” Davis said.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Knight was taken to a local hospital.
