Less than a week before Atlanta’s internationally watched Democratic presidential debate, British oddsmakers are betting on U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren to win her party’s nomination.
That's according to Oddschecker US, an odds comparison and insight service, which is compiling a long-term, data-driven project around political betting markets for next year's U.S. presidential election. The numbers are coming from British bookmakers where political wagering is legal.
Right now, bettors are placing their money on Warren, who they believe is favored over former Vice President Joe Biden. In third place is South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.
“This has involved charting how the odds for the favorites for a number of outcomes in 2020, including the Iowa caucus winner, the New Hampshire primary winner, the overall Democrat candidate and the next president, and seeing how they change every day in response to news and events,” said Oddschecker spokesman Pete Watt.
“These numbers have been collated by using the data from more than a dozen UK books who are offering the market,” he said.

The percentages that are listed each day are calculated from the best available odds on that day, Watt said.
“For example, if 10 oddsmakers are listing Biden’s odds as 5-to-1 but there is one listing him at 6-to-1, we will use the 6-to-1 figure to create the percentages, giving the bettor the biggest profit,” he said.
