Atlantans who look to the sky Sunday night should have a spectacular view of the April full moon, known as the pink moon.

The full moon will be at its peak just before 9 p.m., according to space.com.

The weather will cooperate. Skies will be clear Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls. More about the weather forecast.

The moon is expected to rise over Atlanta at 8:06 p.m., according to timeanddate.com, so look for the moon in the eastern sky.

Official sunset time for Atlanta is a few minutes later, at 8:19 p.m.

The April full moon is known as the pink moon. David Dundee, Tellus Science Museum astronomer, said the Cherokee people called it the Flower Moon, according to the AJC's Wild Georgia column by Charles Seabrook.
