North Georgia is in for another day of clouds, scattered rain and high temperatures in the 70s, according to Channel 2 Action News.
The remnants of Hurricane Nicholas continue to pump tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into the region, creating the right conditions for a little rain. Rain chances are sitting at about 40% Friday, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
“Most of the rain we get today will stay on the lighter side,” she said. “If you are heading outside this morning, you might need to turn those windshield wipers on briefly for maybe a light sprinkle, but that’s really about it.”
Clouds are much more prevalent than showers Friday morning. Rain chances will pick up for the afternoon, Deon said, as showers increase in coverage.
“As we go through the day today, it’s going to be scattered, kind of on-and-off again,” she said. “The clouds are not really budging all that much.”
The scattered rain showers will stick around into the evening and could make stands wet for the start of Friday night football games, according to Channel 2. Deon said it should not rain the entire game.
“In fact, it’s going to look a lot better after halftime and beyond that,” she said. “But, at kickoff, you could be dealing with scattered light showers and temperatures in the low 70s.”
The projected high for Atlanta is 79 degrees.
Showers and storms will be more likely over the weekend, which could prove irksome for those attending Music Midtown in Piedmont Park. The music festival will be held over Saturday and Sunday, when rain chances are 60% and 80%, respectively.
With more widespread, moderate rain showers in the forecast, Deon does not expect to see any sunshine Sunday.
“Those rain chances will really crank up as we head into the weekend, and they will stay high all the way into early next week,” she said. “It’s all compliments of what’s left of Nicholas. The remnants will continue to lift northward, and we’re going to get that steady flow in off the Gulf of Mexico, keeping our moisture content on the high side.”

The Friday morning drive is off to a smooth start everywhere but DeKalb County, where a crash was blocking multiple lanes at 6:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Four left lanes were blocked on I-85 South at Chamblee Tucker Road, and traffic was quickly backing up through Spaghetti Junction.
“This is going to cause a big jam leaving Gwinnett County to DeKalb County,” traffic reporter Mike Shields said. “Go ahead and use Buford Highway as an alternate.”
On the Downtown Connector, the ride was a quiet one at 6:30 a.m., according to the Traffic Center.
