North Georgia is much cooler Friday morning after a system of storms swept the region Thursday, bringing heavy downpours and strong winds.
Much of the remaining rain associated with the system is moving to the north and east, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. A few showers will swing back into North Georgia after lunchtime, he said.
Ahead of the storms, temperatures reached the mid-70s Thursday. Atlanta is not expected to leave the 50s Friday, according to Channel 2. The projected high is 58 degrees.
On Friday morning, temperatures are in the mid-40s in metro Atlanta.
”Spring is straight ahead,” Monahan said. “I promise you there are going to be many more warm days ahead, just not necessarily this weekend.”
Saturday will mark the official start of the season with the spring equinox at 5:37 a.m. Temperatures will remain below average all weekend, with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s, according to the latest forecast.
Monahan said a cold front coming in from the northeast will reinforce the cooler weather Friday. The front will trigger clouds, breezy weather and the chance for isolated showers after about 2 p.m., he said.
Neighborhoods on the Westside are the most likely to see rain Friday, but it will not be a repeat of Thursday’s thunderstorms, according to Channel 2.
Once the showers clear out, North Georgia is looking at a dry weekend.

Pavement is dry as the Friday morning drive gets underway, and there are no major issues on metro Atlanta interstates, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
There is the potential for rolling roadblocks Friday afternoon when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris arrive in Atlanta ahead of scheduled visits to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University.
Air Force One is expected to touch down at Dobbins Air Reserve Base around noon before the president heads to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. WSB traffic reporter Mark Arum assumed he would be traveling by helicopter.
“They might not have to block the interstates like they have in the past for the presidential visit,” Arum said.
Roadblocks are expected on surface streets after Biden and Harris arrive in DeKalb County. Events are scheduled at the CDC at 2:15 p.m. and at Emory at 4:40 p.m.
