A suspect in a fatal stabbing was shot and killed by police Wednesday in Tallahassee, Florida.

According to police, responding officers saw a woman who matched the description of a suspect in the stabbing. One of the officers shot the suspect, who has been identified as African American, because she reportedly was holding a gun and refused to put it down.

The officer, who is white, was not injured in the incident, and has been put on administrative leave, which is standard protocol for the department.

The fatal police shooting happened as the nation once again grapples with the issue of white police officers involved in the deaths of black suspects.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is calling for criminal charges against at least one former officer involved in the death of George Floyd, who died in police custody.
